BIOGRAPHY

Carolyn Reese Crotty was born in Omaha, Nebraska, the youngest of six children. Her love of acting began at 16 when she played Louisa in "The Fantastiks," and fell in love with her gay drama coach, Gordon Cantiello. At 17, Carolyn attended the prestigious StageDoor Manor, a performing arts young people's camp in Loch Sheldrake, New York. The artistic director of the camp, Dr. Jack Romano, "discovered" her raw beauty on stage and moved her to New York City, where Carolyn became "one of his top five students." Under Romano's guidance, Carolyn went on to study classical theatre at the famed American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. She went back to New York City to continue her studies with Warren Robertson, William Esper, among others.

After finishing her two years of Meisner training with Mr. Esper, Carolyn performed in New Hampshire Summer Stock. But Jack Romano's vision for Carolyn was film. So rather than continue a promising career in New York theatre, Carolyn willed herself to Los Angeles. On a visit to Manhattan Beach to visit her sister, Carolyn was propitiously cast in the Laguna Playhouse production of Eugene O'Neill's "Ah, Wilderness," which propelled Carolyn to make L.A. her home.

Since that memorable debut, Carolyn has done extensive work in the L.A. area, including performances at the Laguna Playhouse, Hudson Theatre, Moving Arts, Eclectic Theatre, the Celebration Theatre, and several cameo roles on television and film.

When not working commercially, Carolyn is an active member of Theatre Neo and the Waging Theatre Company.

Carolyn is a graduate of UCLA, with a degree in Women's Studies and English.

Carolyn's work is dedicated to her mother, Beverly Dillon Crotty, who recently passed away, but who's spirit lives on in Carolyn's life and work.
